Other Trainings

The Region and Councils offer many other training opportunities for Advisors and Venturers. 
Among them are:
 

  • NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training)

National Youth Leadership Training is an exciting, action-packed program designed for councils to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home crews.

  • NAYLE (National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience)

The National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE) is an exciting program where Venturers can enhance their leadership skills in the Philmont backcountry. Scouts will expand upon team-building and ethical decision-making skills learned in National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT).

  • WFA (Wilderness First Aid)

Wilderness First Aid courses are designed to meet the needs of those who go into areas that are beyond the reach of urban EMS.  This course has a ceritfication process.  It is approximatley 16 hours of training for situations when help is delayed.  This course is offered through the Red Cross.  It will be required for those units taking a trek to the Philmont Scout Reservation in 2008 and beyond and is recommended for back country camping, hiking, canoeing, or other high adventure. 

  • LNT (Leave No Trace)

The Boy Scouts of America is committed to Leave No Trace, which is a nationally recognized outdoor skills and ethics awareness program. Its seven principles are guidelines to follow at all times.  BSA Councils throughout the country use the course to introduce Leave No Trace to their members.  

Master Educator courses are designed for people who are actively teaching others outdoor skills or providing recreation information to the public.  Leave No Trace Trainer courses are two-day trainings put on in an outdoor setting by Master Educators and qualifies you to teach Boy Scout LNT .  Awareness Courses (which are the one many councils just call LNT training) are workshops are any type of formal Leave No Trace training that is one-day or less in length. 

  • OKPIK
This Train the Trainer program will provide you with the knowledge and materials to conduct winter camping training within your units. This program covers the skills and techniques that must be learned and the planning that must be done to ensure a successful, fun, and safe cold weather camping experience.
